Access to midwifery
West Thames College
The level 3 access to midwifery course is a nationally recognised qualification regulated by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA). It's designed to provide preparation for study in higher education (HE) in the UK for adults returning to education.
This is a one-year course for students aged 19+ who want to gain the skills and knowledge required for university-level study and a career in midwifery. The course provides a balance of essential study skills with specialist subject knowledge to prepare students for the academic and practical rigours of undergraduate study in midwifery. The course is taught by experienced tutors who are understanding of the needs of people returning to study after a long break.

- Cells
- Disease and immunity
- The reproductive system
Health studies
- The National Health Service
- The role of the health or social care professional
- Communication skills in a professional setting
- Ethical dilemmas
- Health promotion and health education
- Extended project sociology
- Sociology of health
Study skills (which are incorporated in units above)
- Reading and comprehension of scientific writing
- Arithmetic skills for health studies
- Human biology
- Preparation for HE
- Examination skills
- Report writing
To pass the diploma, you must achieve 60 credits.
