The AAT level 3 assistant accountant apprenticeship presents a valuable and comprehensive opportunity for learners seeking to establish a rewarding career in the accounting and finance field.

The AAT level 3 assistant accountant apprenticeship offers learners a combination of practical skills, a recognised qualification, industry relevance, and a clear pathway to a rewarding career in accounting and finance.

CONEL runs this programme over a 24 month timeframe, with a learning period of 18 months and an end point assessment (EPA) of up to six months.

This apprenticeship is for the following audience:

  • Individuals employed in a relevant accounting role Individuals looking to kickstart a career as a professional accountant
  • Businesses looking to take on and upskill entry level talent Individuals looking to switch careers, or seeking to advance within the accounting and finance industry

By completing this apprenticeship, you gain a nationally recognised qualification (AAT level 3 diploma in accounting qualification), and an apprenticeship certificate.

The skills and knowledge you gain throughout this apprenticeship qualify you for roles including finance officer, assistant accountant and bookkeeper.

You are also eligible for AAT bookkeeper (AATQB) status, giving you the option to work as a freelance bookkeeper.

Eligibility requirements

The apprentice will need:

  • AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting - minimum Merit Grade.
  • GCSE Maths and English Grades 5 and above or Functional Skills Level 2 in both Maths and English.
  • Functional Skills English requirement is that candidates must have achieved both Level 2 Reading and Writing.

Employers with a pay bill of less than £3 million a year will not need to pay the levy, and they will receive government support with the training costs.

Since 1 April 2019, non-levy-paying employers pay 5% towards the cost of apprenticeship training. The government will pay the rest (95%) up to the funding band maximum.
