qNomics Client Advisory

Our Client Advisory programme provides free business guidance and analytical support to startups, entrepreneurs and small businesses in London facing a range of business challenges.

We work with entrepreneurs, startups and small businesses across a wide range of sectors, supporting them to explore real business challenges through student-led research and practical, evidence-informed recommendations.

Work with qNomics on a real business challenge

qNomics Client Advisory connects entrepreneurs, startups and small businesses with student teams from Queen Mary University of London’s School of Economics and Finance.

Working with support from an experienced professional supervisor, students explore a specific challenge facing your organisation, conduct research and analysis, and develop practical, evidence-informed recommendations.

The programme is free to participating clients and is designed as a collaborative learning and knowledge-exchange experience.

Clients bring their expertise, experience and understanding of their business, while students contribute fresh perspectives, academic knowledge and analytical skills.

We welcome businesses and entrepreneurs from a wide range of sectors and stages of development.

Areas we may be able to support

Projects vary according to the needs of each client and may include areas such as:

• Business planning and strategy.
• Market research.
• Pricing and financial analysis.
• Funding research.
• Marketing and customer insights.
• Data analysis. 

What to expect

• Application: The first step is to complete our expression of interest form and tell us about your business, the challenge you are currently facing and what you would like the student team to explore.
• Screening conversation: After reviewing your application, the qNomics Coordinator may invite you to a short conversation to learn more about your organisation and clarify the proposed project.
  This is also an opportunity to discuss what qNomics can realistically support and to shape a focused project brief.
• Project matching and preparation: If your project is accepted, qNomics will develop an agreed project brief and match your organisation with a student team and professional supervisor.
  Students will receive information about your organisation and prepare for the project before meeting you.
• Initial client meeting: Your student team will lead an initial meeting with you, supported by their supervisor. The purpose of this conversation is to understand your business in greater depth, explore the challenge set out in the brief and ask the questions needed to begin their research and analysis.
  Your experience and knowledge of your organisation are an important part of this process.
• Research and project report: Following the meeting, the students will undertake the main project work and develop their report and recommendations. Their professional supervisor will review the developing work and provide feedback. This process is coordinated through the qNomics Coordinator, helping to ensure that students receive structured professional guidance while retaining ownership of their project.
• Final presentation: At the end of the project, the student team will present its findings and recommendations to you and share the final project output.
  This provides an opportunity to discuss the work, ask questions and reflect on the recommendations developed through the project.

Eligibility requirements

Participating in qNomics also requires some commitment from our clients.

We ask that you:

• Provide accurate and relevant information about your organisation and project.
• Attend the agreed client meeting and final presentation.
• Respond to reasonable requests for clarification where necessary.
• Communicate promptly with the qNomics team.
• Approach the student team as collaborators in a learning process.
• Provide feedback on your experience at key stages of the project.
