Who is this course for and what will I learn?

This course is designed for complete beginners who need to learn payroll processing using Sage Payroll software. Perfect for small business owners, office administrators, bookkeepers and anyone seeking payroll employment.

By the end of the course, you become familiar with payroll terminology, able to enter an employee's gross pay from given basic personal and contractual information and perform a payroll run.

Topics covered include:

  • company details.
  • setting up employees' records.
  • setting payment/deduction types.
  • processing the payroll.
  • entering gross salaries, printing pay slips and updating the payroll.
  • payroll reports.
  • payroll summary reports and printing form P32.
  • starters and leavers.
  • adding new employees to the payroll and generating P45s for leavers.

How will I learn?

This course uses a practical, hands-on approach where you learn by processing real payroll scenarios using Sage Payroll software.

You work through complete payroll cycles from setup to year-end, building confidence through guided practice and real-world examples.

The teaching, learning and assessment methods used in the course include computer-based training using payroll software, presentations, group work, discussions, individual timed tasks and directed self-study.

Eligibility requirements

No prior experience with Sage Payroll or payroll processing is required. Basic computer skills and some understanding of employment terms (salary, hourly rates, tax) will be helpful but essential concepts will be covered during the course.
