The Middlesex University's Tax and Accounting Clinic (MDXTAC) provides free support to local individuals, charities and micro or small businesses.
Our work is carried out by student volunteers under the supervision of qualified chartered accountants and focuses on helping clients understand and manage basic tax and accounting matters.
Areas of support
- Guidance on self-assessment tax returns, company tax returns, National Insurance and basic bookkeeping principles.
- Guidance on business record-keeping and review of account preparation.
- General information on HMRC obligations for small businesses, the self-employed and partnerships.
- Independent examination of accounts for small charities.
Client eligibility
- Individuals, charities or micro/small businesses that meet one or more of the following:
- Annual turnover below £1m.
- Balance sheet total below £500,000.
- Fewer than 10 employees.
- Unrepresented clients not currently engaged with an accountant or tax adviser.
Clients are welcome to seek support as often as needed and there is no limit on the number of queries or appointments we can accommodate within our capacity.
However, MDXTAC does not undertake continuous or ongoing accounting work, such as maintaining bookkeeping records, payroll processing or routine compliance tasks.
